Once again, education barely came up in the GOP debate Saturday night, save when New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie bragged about his battles with teachers unions and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz blasted President Obama for “abusing executive power using Race to the Top funds in the Department of Education to force [the Common Core standards] in the states.” (Race to the Top ended last year, but who’s counting?)

Eleventh District U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows has filed a bill to allow parents to get most of Washington, D.C., schools' revenue in the form of vouchers to be spent at any school they want. But the district's representative in the House, Democratic U.S. Rep. Tucked in a 2,000-page must-pass spending bill is a provision that would prohibit the city from spending any money to "enact any law, rule, or regulation to legalize or otherwise reduce penalties associated with the possession, use, or distribution of any schedule I substance," which includes marijuana.
